Theory serves as a cornerstone in the social sciences overall and holds particular significance in anthropology due to the intricate detail inherent in ethnographic descriptions, which heightens the necessity for theoretical explanations. Anthropologists gather their ethnographic data primarily through fieldwork, yet the selection of this data and its subsequent interpretation cannot be disentangled from the theoretical framework employed by the researchers. Whether consciously articulated or subtly embedded, theories function as essential tools for anthropologists, guiding them in analyzing their findings and discerning which data is most relevant and meaningful.
