The Al Mahatta Museum stands as one of the most significant and renowned cultural landmarks in the Emirate of Sharjah. It holds historical importance as it marks the establishment of the region's first airport, inaugurated in 1930, serving as a key air station for the British Crown.
This research adopts a historical retrospective approach to explore the subject. Like any study, it encountered certain challenges. The primary issue was the limited availability of sources, particularly Arabic ones, despite the abundance of references. Most of the records documenting the airport’s history are British, often in the form of videotapes that provide firsthand accounts of its construction phases. This disparity can be attributed to the advanced level of development during the British presence, as opposed to the widespread poverty, illiteracy, and lack of resources prevalent in the region at that time. Consequently, there are no local archival sources on the history of Sharjah's old airport, only scattered references.
An Emirati researcher and University of Sharjah graduate with a Bachelor's degree in History earned in 2013 has an extensive portfolio of both published and unpublished articles, research papers, and studies. She achieved recognition at the local level, winning an award for the best studies and research category for her paper titled The Al Mahatta Museum (from 1932 to the present).
