Ruler of Sharjah honors winners of the second edition of the Sharjah International Cultural Heritage Award

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the ceremony to honor the winners of the second edition of the Sharjah International Cultural Heritage Award in its three fields, distributed over nine categories, on Sunday morning at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage. The ceremony began with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, followed by verses from the Holy Quran. After that, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, delivered a speech in which he praised the efforts of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and his insightful vision in supporting the preservation and protection of heritage and caring for those working in it, and His Highness’s directives aimed at preserving, protecting and disseminating cultural heritage, and providing the necessary and various means to carry out this noble goal, in addition to the great efforts made by the Emirate of Sharjah in the scope of interest in heritage, collection, documentation, study and investigation, until it became a model to be emulated. He said, "The second session of the Sharjah International Cultural Heritage Award has achieved a great deal of qualitative interest in its various branches and its local, Arab and international branches, thanks to the generous support and great encouragement that the award has received and continues to receive from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. In a short period of time, it has been able to attract leading figures and promising writers in the field of cultural heritage, achieving a qualitative addition in its field, as it is the only international award in the United Arab Emirates that is concerned with cultural heritage and celebrates a group of experts, narrators, specialists and researchers who have dedicated their lives to serving, preserving and protecting cultural heritage, and have achieved the best preservation practices in this regard. Their experiences have also constituted milestones locally, Arab and internationally." His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al Musallam congratulated the winners, congratulating them on their success and honor, noting that the competition was strong among participants from different countries, whose practices, experiences and research have risen to the level of the award, and who were distributed across six countries. He pointed out that the Cultural Heritage Personality of the Year Award was created to honor individuals and groups for their valuable work and contributions to the field of cultural heritage, stressing that the award opens its doors to receive projects, research and studies in order to expand human communication through heritage, which is the true tributary that unites humanity from different backgrounds, as it contains noble values ​​that call for people to communicate and interact continuously with each other. Dr. Rashad Salem, Director of Al Qasimia University and member of the award’s jury, delivered the jury’s speech, in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his wise and forward-looking vision in supporting all the programs of the Emirate of Sharjah, which has become a headquarters and a major supporter of many events worldwide.

Then, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, accompanied by His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al-Musallam, was invited to ascend to the platform to honor the winners of this session within the Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage and grant them commemorative shields and certificates of appreciation.
His Excellency Ali Abdullah Khalifa, President of the International Organization for Folk Art, won the Cultural Heritage Personality of the Year award in recognition of his valuable contributions and pioneering efforts in the field of cultural heritage preservation and protection.
In the Best Practices for Preserving Cultural Heritage category, the Emirates Heritage Club won the Local Practices Award category, and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for the Care of the Kingdom's Cultural Heritage, presented by the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, won the Arab Practices Award category, while the Chinese craftsman Jin Juhu, an expert in the field of wooden boat manufacturing, won the International Practices Award category.
In the Narrators and Heritage Carriers (Living Human Treasures) branch, Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi won the Local Narrator Award, Fatima Sarhan from the Arab Republic of Egypt won the Arab Narrator Award, while Rosa Maria from Mexico won the International Narrator Award.
In the “Cultural Heritage Researchers” branch, the late researcher Ibrahim Saleh Al Awadhi won the Local Research Award for his study “Folk Fabrics in the United Arab Emirates” and his son Khalid Ibrahim received the award. In the Arab Research Award category, Ahmed Mubarak Salem from the Kingdom of Bahrain won for his study “Cultural and Social Life in Bahrain a Hundred Years Ago and Its Reflection on the Art of Lullaby”. As for the International Research Award category, Zhao Rongguang from the People’s Republic of China won for his study “Chinese Food Culture and Inherited Traditions”.
His Highness also honoured the Sharjah Media Corporation and the Sharjah Government Media Office for their media sponsorship of the award.
The members of the award’s jury were honoured by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and took a group photo with His Highness.
Following the end of the honoring ceremony, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah witnessed a musical and artistic heritage show by the Bosnian Republic Band participating in the Sharjah Heritage Days, which presented a group of heritage paintings.
His Highness also listened to the winning storyteller Fatima Sarhan, who praised His Highness's great efforts to preserve cultural heritage in all its forms and His Highness's keenness to honor winners at all levels. His Highness exchanged talks with her about the art of oral storytelling and the importance of preserving it as an important part of Arab heritage.
In addition to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the honoring ceremony was attended by Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture, His Excellency Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality, and a number of researchers and specialists in cultural affairs and officials in Sharjah government departments."
